Shmaya Honickman

Q & A with Shmaya Honickman
We recently caught up with Shamaya Honickman, who is married to Yocheved and lives in Teaneck, NJ.
We got the serious questions out of the way first:
Peanut Butter - creamy or chunky?
I don't like PB but I am all about that almond butter, smooth and silky!!
What’s your opinion of Dunkeroos?
Nostalgia tastes much better in our minds than in our mouths.
How was your life impacted by your time at Hillel?
My decision to join Hillel was on heels of my grandfather's passing. He loved the Jewish people, and I figured by joining Hillel I could keep my connection to him alive. What I found was my own deep and meaningful connection to our people, which has shaped the way I live my life years after leaving RCC.
What are you doing now?
I work in the field of addiction recovery with young Jewish people at an organization called The Living Room.
What's your advice for current Hillel students?
Never hide being a Jew on campus. Try your hardest to connect with students who are not Jewish as well. You may be the only representative of our people they see!
Favorite Hillel memory?
My favorite memory is the time Rabbi Oliver wore my crazy hippie clothes and we sent out a poll about “Who wore it best?”
