Simcha Brodsky
November 2020
You Brought Simcha Home
Life can be turbulent for some young people. “Since I was 17, I've been rich, I've been homeless, I've been up, and I've been down. I've lived in more than 25 different homes since the day I was born.” So said Simcha Brodsky, 24, who has been coming to Hillel for more than six years.
And when Simcha joined Hillel on a Birthright Israel trip in January 2020 -- the last one before COVID -- he decided once and for all, “Israel is my true home.”
Born on Simchat Torah, it’s only natural that Simcha spreads joy in his work as an in-demand DJ (stage name BROSKY) at events all around the community.
When COVID struck and Simcha was essentially out of work, Hillel became his source of strength. “While I love Hillel’s online programs during the pandemic, what I appreciate the most is Rabbi Oliver, who is both my rabbi and my friend,” Simcha said. “He is an amazing listening ear and someone I can speak to about everything.”
A total fitness freak on a lifelong journey of self-improvement, Simcha is not deterred easily. So once Simcha decided to make aliyah, not even a pandemic could stand in his way. After an emotional Hillel barbecue sendoff, Simcha boarded a flight for Israel on October 27, never expecting to become a headline-making celebrity upon arrival.
Upon his arrival, Simcha was recognized as the 16,000th person to make aliyah in 2020! See article here. He even got a warm welcome message from Israeli superstar Yishai Ribo one of his main musical heroes.
“I am finally at peace,” said Simcha. “I am home.”
